- Demolition of 2 bridge piers for Jensen Construction Company,
Tulsa, OK. Job location –Holiday Island, AR, 7/94. Kent Glesner,
(918) 245-6691. Jensen
construction hired the piers to be drilled by another source.
The drilling was done from the top of an existing bridge deck
to be removed. The
driller did not get the holes deep enough and the piers were left in
the bottom of the lake channel when they were shot.
The short holes were not discovered until Dykon arrived
onsite to blast the piers. At
this time the deck had already been removed and it was not possible
to drill the holes any deeper.
The piers were shot to the depth they were drilled, Dykon
sent certified divers down and , using explosives, removed the
remaining piers to final limits underwater.
Water depth was 25 feet.

- Felling of 4 steel trusses plus piers on
Hwy. 82 Bridge for Jensen Construction Co. Job location –
Tahlequah, OK, 4/93. John Deering, (918) 245-6691.
The Bridge piers were drilled from the bridge deck prior to
shooting the spans down. The
columns were too tall to accurately drill straight for the entire
height to be removed, so they were split at the water line.
The steel spans were sectionalized and shot with linear
shaped charges. The above water sections of the piers were loaded from a
crane basket from a barge. The
remaining concrete piers were then drilled vertically and shot to
below mud-line from a spud barge.
Water Depth was 60 feet.
Project Managers, Jared
Redyke on the steel spans, David Hersey on the concrete piers.

The remaining concrete was drilled by hand, covered and shot.
A new bridge was less than 15 feet away.
Water depth was about 35 feet

- Felling of damaged piers which collapsed during construction of
a major cable-stayed concrete bridge over the Han River for Metro 25
Korea Ltd. Daewoo Engineering Co., Byucksan. Job location – Seoul,
Korea, 12/92. Young Kim, 011-822-523-6947.
The bridge was overloaded beyond it’s capacity with
construction equipment prior to the securing of the cable anchors.
When the first span failed, it caused a sympathetic failure
of several spans along the new bridge.
These failures were in the center of the bridge spans and
when they collapsed, they were stagged up against the new piers with
the ends on the bottom of the river channel.
The collapsed bridge decks were drilled and blasted leaving
the footings and new piers undamaged. Water depth was about 25 feet.
Dykon personnel onsite – Jim Redyke and David Hersey.

with crane mats to support the drill.

The upstream and downstream sills were all under water. The pier was drilled vertically through casings.
The holes were loaded through the casings in 30 feet of
water. Project Manager

- Explosive demolition of the Highway 33 Bridge, 3 steel spans
plus piers for Jensen Construction Co. Job location – Choteau, OK,
10/90. Dan Timmons, (918) 245-6691.
The new bridge was built right beside the old bridge to be
demolished. The steel
spans were sectionalized and felled with the use of flexible linear
shaped charges. The
concrete piers were demolished conventionally down to 4 feet above
the existing water line. The
remaining piers were drilled vertically from a flexi-float spud
barge. The entire pier
including the footings had to be removed to make room for the
construction of the new piers and footings for second new bridge.
The water depth was about 35 feet.
