 A
manufacturer of wheels for railroad cars, Griffin Wheel is
building a new plant in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Located just west of
145th East Avenue on Tiger Switch Rd, this new facility will be
capable of bringing in the raw material by rail car and
exporting the finished product for distribution nation-wide.
The
excavation for this project required Mass Rock Blasting for the
building pad and associated roads and rail spurs for the
facility and Trench Rock Blasting for the utility lines and
massive grade beams and footings which will support the
building.
Eichleay Engineers and Constructors,
Pittsburgh, PA, is in charge of the design
& construction of this facility.
Koester Contracting Corp,
Evansville, IN, is the excavation
contractor in charge of all site preparation work.
Harden &
Associates Surveying and Mapping, PLLC, Tulsa, OK, are the
onsite surveyors.
Griffin
Wheel purchased 350 acres of property. This land is located in
a limestone bearing region with less than 2 feet of topsoil
present over the entire site. In order to dig the building
area, massive footing trenches, utilities and railroad spurs,
blasting of the limestone was required.
Koester
Contracting Corporation out of Evansville, Indiana hired Dykon
Blasting to drill and blast all rock for the project. Over
250,000 square feet of rock has been blasted and 5000 lineal
feet of trenches. Most of these were shallow cuts and required
over 12,000 holes to be drilled and blasted. |
